The words big and wide hardly ever go together with the term high performance, yet Triton’s new 21 TrX topped 74 mph during our trials. More than that, this tournament-ready bass boat did so using four-stroke power, a fact sure to cause consternation among some anglers and outboard enthusiasts. We say let them gripe: Mercury’s 250 Verado Pro hurtled the 21 TrX onto plane in 4.6 seconds, hustling us to 30 mph in 8.6 seconds. That’s movin’.
Of course, this boat can catch, even if other boats have trouble catching up. The 21 TrX’s 7-foot-11-inch beam incorporates a bow deck that will easily fish a pair of anglers as need be. Also, standing at the deck’s edge and casting, we noted with approval how the boat didn’t rock under our weight — which would send wavelets of danger signals to spooky bass.
That extra space was also used for stowage, with the 21 TrX boasting three big compartments in the bow. Open the centerline hatch to reveal a rack for about a dozen tackle boxes and holders for up to 10 rods. In the portside locker, there are racks for 14 more rods, and the third locker serves as bulk stowage. Up in the bow, Triton provided an angled flat enabling flush-mounted installation of a 12-inch screen, which is superior to a bracket mount in convenience and security. The deep footwell for the trolling motor makes using the pedal easier, and we noted with approval the tool rack, tackle tray, cup holder and built-in measuring board.
Aft, the 21 TrX sports two big livewells. Each is fitted with an insulated lid, an 800 gph recirculating pump, an 800 gph aerating pump and an 800 gph pump-out pump. Fish will stay lively with this system, even if you’re toting a “big bag” back to the weigh-in.
A built-in cooler with two-tier shelves and an insulated lid keep your lunch cool. A center-console rivaling those found in luxury pickup trucks resides between the helm seats. In fact, there are too many features to list here. Anglers big on everything should check out a 21 TrX at a dealer soon.
