Triton was founded by race-boat driver Earl Bentz, and though the brand has gone through several hands since Bentz’s, it still bears the reputation as a high-performance bass boat. The 21XrT follows that example and even ups the bar, equipped with a Mercury 250 Pro XS that made 30 mph in 7.6 seconds and hit a top speed over 71 mph. At these speeds, the Pro-Trim steering-mounted switches for the jack plate and power trim make for a safer, more secure ride. There’s a molded-in platform for a foot throttle under the console, and we recommend it.

A stable, secure ride even at higher speeds. Courtesy Triton Boats

The Triton 21XrT’s charcoal and black metal-flake gelcoat with crisp tape lines and white accents shows that Triton knows how to build boats that are strong, functional and beautiful. The extra-wide 95-inch beam makes for ultra-roomy fishing decks fore and aft as well as a stable platform whether at rest or underway. That beefy beam accommodates a big console with side-by-side Lowrance HDS Live 12 displays. There’s a nice space between the console and gunwale to lay rods, safe from catching the dock or brush.

An inductive phone charger and digital switching bring the tech. Other cockpit accoutrements include properly positioned, comfy, wide seats; a cooler beneath the foredeck step; and storage between the fast seats.

At the bow, Triton cleverly mounted two more Lowrance HDS 12 displays side by side. The Lowrance Ghost 52-inch-shaft trolling-motor option talks to the GPS for precision fishing. There’s a 13-rod locker on the port side, an, a 10-rod locker with space for Plano 3700 tackle boxes on center. Dry storage is on the starboard side. On the aft deck, we found gelcoated storage boxes, and fully aerated, recirculated pump-out livewells are on the centerline aft.

A particularly nice touch: The aft access hatches open outward from the centerline, making it easy to get to the batteries, pumps and fuel system should the need arise. Our tester was equipped with twin Power-Pole Blades, considered a must-have by most serious anglers. For the investment, this Triton should be considered a serious fishing platform.

Serious anglers demand nothing but the best from their boats that allow them to chase multiple species on big water. These die-hard anglers demand a seaworthy craft capable of crossing big, rough bodies of water safely, smoothly and efficiently. To meet these demands, Triton Boats has introduced a new multi-species model that exceeds expectations: the 206 Fishunter.

Triton 206 Fishunter

The 206 Fishunter spans 20 feet, 5 inches in length and sports a massive 100-inch beam for unparalleled interior room. Paired with outboards from 200 to 250 hp, it delivers a rapid hole shot, lightning-fast acceleration and blazing top-end speed.

“Serious walleye anglers have been asking us to build a slightly smaller version of our 21-foot, 7-inch 216 Fishunter, which is widely regarded by professional walleye anglers as the ultimate tournament boat,” said Triton founder Earl Bentz. “Throughout the design process, we sought input from our walleye pro staff members, who unanimously agreed that this new multi-species boat should incorporate an interior layout and features very similar to those found on the 216. I’m proud to say, Mission Accomplished! Our Pro Staffers and I agree that our all-new 206 Fishunter is the perfect size for most walleye fishing applications, without sacrificing the enhanced fishability, storage capability, riding comfort and performance that our 216 Fishunter is so famous for.”

The all-new 206 Fishunter has been designed and engineered for superior performance and maximum fishability. Triton’s competition-proven high-performance deep-vee hull delivers the smoothest, softest ride in walleye country, so you’ll be able to run farther and faster in your quest for giant ‘eyes. The massive front deck houses two large tackle storage compartments, an aerated baitwell, and a convenient center rod locker capable of organizing 10 of your favorite sticks in elevated protective tubes, with additional bulk rod storage capability below. The bow of the 206 features a bow panel large enough to flush-mount a 12-inch graph, along with a drink holder, and tool caddy. The ergonomic driver’s console sports a full compliment of gauges plus a backlit switch panel and an oversized dash for flush-mounting large (up to 12-inch) electronic units and the capability to gimbal mount a 2nd 12-inch unit as well.

The 206 Fishunter is available with either twin individual Plexiglas windshields or a tempered glass walk-through windshield; the roomy passenger console features a handy glove box and a built-in tackle footrest storage module. Innovative rod storage on the passenger side of the cockpit allows 4 ultra long trolling rods to be organized and stowed as well as 4 additional rods stowed in protective tubes. The rear deck offers oversized storage compartments for loads of tackle and gear, plus a horizontal tournament livewell with aeration, recirculation and pumpout that’s big enough to hold a world record musky. The 206 Fishunter comes standard with a MinnKota Terrova 60″ shaft 112 lb. thrust 36-volt I-pilot trolling motor, 4-bank onboard battery charger, Lowrance HDS-9 Gen3 fishfinder/chartplotter, and custom drive-on tandem axle trailer with disc brakes on both axles and a spare tire.

The new 206 Fishunter is available exclusively through authorized Triton Boats dealers. For the location of a nearby dealer, or for additional information, log onto the Triton Website (www.tritonboats.com) or call 1-888-8TRITON.

The words big and wide hardly ever go together with the term high performance, yet Triton’s new 21 TrX topped 74 mph during our trials. More than that, this tournament-ready bass boat did so using four-stroke power, a fact sure to cause consternation among some anglers and outboard enthusiasts. We say let them gripe: Mercury’s 250 Verado Pro hurtled the 21 TrX onto plane in 4.6 seconds, hustling us to 30 mph in 8.6 seconds. That’s movin’.

Of course, this boat can catch, even if other boats have trouble catching up. The 21 TrX’s 7-foot-11-inch beam incorporates a bow deck that will easily fish a pair of anglers as need be. Also, standing at the deck’s edge and casting, we noted with approval how the boat didn’t rock under our weight — which would send wavelets of danger signals to spooky bass.

That extra space was also used for stowage, with the 21 TrX boasting three big compartments in the bow. Open the centerline hatch to reveal a rack for about a dozen tackle boxes and holders for up to 10 rods. In the portside locker, there are racks for 14 more rods, and the third locker serves as bulk stowage. Up in the bow, Triton provided an angled flat enabling flush-mounted installation of a 12-inch screen, which is superior to a bracket mount in convenience and security. The deep footwell for the trolling motor makes using the pedal easier, and we noted with approval the tool rack, tackle tray, cup holder and built-in measuring board.

Aft, the 21 TrX sports two big livewells. Each is fitted with an insulated lid, an 800 gph recirculating pump, an 800 gph aerating pump and an 800 gph pump-out pump. Fish will stay lively with this system, even if you’re toting a “big bag” back to the weigh-in.

A built-in cooler with two-tier shelves and an insulated lid keep your lunch cool. A center-console rivaling those found in luxury pickup trucks resides between the helm seats. In fact, there are too many features to list here. Anglers big on everything should check out a 21 TrX at a dealer soon.

Buyer’s Spotlight
*This boat is big on dimensions, big on performance and big on fishability.
*Topping 74 mph with Mercury’s 250 Verado Pro for power, the 21 TrX proves bigger can be better.
*The wide beam provides stability, even when standing at the edge of the huge bow deck.
*Heavy-duty six-gauge wiring carries power for the optional trolling motor.
*Twin livewells offer redundancy, huge capacity for your fish, and the ability to segregate your catch, whether to isolate a sick fish or to keep catches separate if fishing a pro-am tournament.

Triton 21 TRX

Triton Boats was founded by former Mercury Racing Team member Earl Bentz. Through turns and transitions, Bentz has remained, helping with a racer’s instincts.

So we weren’t surprised to see the new 21 TRX push the speedometer to nearly 75 miles per hour at 5,650 rpm. On a cooler day with a little riffle on the water, Triton’s tech staff has attained speeds up to 3 mph faster. The magnum-size bass platform cruised at 33.5 mph while getting 3.6 miles per gallon — a sure sign of an efficient relationship between a well-designed hull and a powerful outboard. At any speed, the TRX’s stability was as reassuring as a snugly buckled life jacket.

At the helm we had a Hot Foot throttle pedal, and our trim switch was on the helm stalk, in easy fingertip reach for adjustment without ever removing a hand from the wheel. Full instrumentation is positioned over the helm, and still there is room for a 12-inch GPS/sonar display. Another will fit on the electronics panel at the bow, ahead of the recessed trolling motor pedal and flanked by polished stainless-steel-trimmed tool and cup holders.

Triton’s calling card may be its top speed, but its popularity on the bass fishing tournament circuit is equally attributable to its fishable platforms. The 21 TRX’s rod storage is unique to premium bass rigs, with a central locker for 10 rods nestled between utility tackle box racks. On the port side another rod locker secures 14 rods in tube tips and butt hangers.

While spare tackle can remain secured below, both anglers can roam around on the forward casting deck. Triton expanded it by 20 percent over last year’s model, and padded the deck to ease stress and strain on the anglers’ frames.

If you know Triton boats, you don’t need to be told the livewells are top shelf with pumps for recirculating, aerating and draining. You also know that beneath the aft hatch you’ll find easy access to batteries, a two-stroke oil tank — yep, two-stroke engines with their ultimate power-to-weight ratio are the engines of choice for this boat — a battery charger and pump access.

Buyer’s Spotlight
*Enlarged front deck provides better maneuverability.
*Bow panel accommodates 12-inch GPS/sonar display.
*Large front-deck lockers hold up to 24 8-foot rods.
*Fiberglass console can house a 12-inch sonar display.
*Bow has fixed, flush lights.

Triton’s founder, Earl Benz, is grounded in racing, so we’re not surprised when his boats consistently hit speeds in the 70s. The 21 X3’s clean lines are complemented by a broad forward casting deck and plenty of space aft for a partner angler. It’s available in both dual- and single-console models, giving owners a choice of maximum fishing clearance or passenger comfort on long runs. Hard-core anglers will be pleased with tackle-storage components. Triton’s 21 X3 matches performance with style.

The post Triton 301XD Express appeared first on Boating Mag.

]]>
Triton’s 301XD Express can please a family or coddle anglers used to toughing it out offshore. Loaded with fishboxes, tackle stowage, and a standard fiberglass half-tower, the 301XD Express comes with some special pleasures. Reverse cycle air-conditioning, an LCD TV, microwave, MP3 hookup, water heater, china commode, and teak and holly cabin sole give you cruiseability along with the boat’s inherent fishability.

Construction includes a matrix-type one-piece stringer system made of Tri-Core, with added layers of fiberglass and a methacrylate glue that’s stronger than the fiberglass it bonds. That means if you pulled the pieces apart, the glass would break before the glue. The parts are computer designed and cut, ensuring a precision fit. The transom runs full width to spread the stress of outboard torque, and all belowdecks voids are filled with flotation foam that quiets the ride, stiffens the boat, and insulates stowage boxes. I was also impressed by the through-hull fittings, which are stainless steel, bonded, and coupled to reinforced, double-clamped hoses.

Hate getting nickel-and-dimed with options? Triton offers a better way. In addition to its standard luxury touches, the 301XD Express includes the gear anglers demand, starting with an electric windlass up front. The hardtop is also included, complete with electronics box. All the fishing amenities are standard, too, including a jumbo lighted livewell, with tuna tube capability, and tons of tackle and rod stowage. The only extras you may want to add are the Panda 4.1 kW diesel generator ($14,896), which tucks away under the aft sole, and the Taco Grand Slam outriggers ($1,944).

Considering its four-ton hull weight and wide beam, the 301XD Express displayed surprising performance with the twin 300-hp Mercruy Verado outboards. Holeshot is nearly instant and midrange acceleration is exceptional. With three-quarters fuel and three aboard, the 301XD Express topped out at 50.7 mph. Range at 4000 rpm and 26.4 mph is 318 miles, making this a great boat for island hopping.
