Overview

The 21-foot-10-inch SV replaces Supra’s long-running, compact SR, and does it in a big way. A full foot longer, the SV feels, rides and performs more like its bigger sister, the SA (22 feet, 5 inches), renowned as the towboat of the Pro Wake Tour. And in terms of looks, the SV more resembles the biggest boat in the Supra line, the SE, thanks to its unique hullside patterns. Put together, the SV is beautiful both on and off the water, with an aggressive yet refined look. Plus, it’s loaded with standard features.

For instance, at its $190,000 starting price, the SV includes high-value items such as the Swell Surf System, AutoWake, power tower, Bimini top, clamping board racks, DSD audio, power captain’s chair, and more. Competitive boats, such as Malibu’s 22 LSV (starts at $163,000), offer systems such as Power Wedge and Surf Gate optionally. Of course, you can option-up the Supra SV as well, with a bigger engine, electronically assisted steering, flip-up transom seats, and more. I’ll get into that. But first, check out the Supra SV’s layout.

Supra SV bow seating
Family and friends enjoy plenty of seating room, even for adults up in the bow. Courtesy Supra Boats

Interior and Accessories

High gunwales and a fully wrapped windshield look great and make for a more comfortable ride. Deep seating keeps crew feeling secure, while also allowing for ample storage throughout the boat. Fit the SV with Supra’s Chill Tech vinyl, and that interior won’t get too hot, even on a sunny summer day. It’s a cliche, but Supra really did make the SV feel like a bigger boat. Family and friends enjoy plenty of seating room, even for adults up in the bow. Additionally, the seating can be customized. Supra’s convertible rear bench converts to a tabletop. In the bow, the Switchback seat acts as a windscreen and a seatback, cleverly converting via a sliding track, so it doesn’t need to be pulled out from under a seat. The SV also features pop-up backrests above the engine compartment for additional lounge-worthy luxury.

Despite being the smallest boat in Supra’s lineup, the SV’s calling card are the wakes and waves. Fill up the ballast, add a few friends, and the SV creates pro-level riding surfaces on par with boats that are 2 or even 3 feet longer. While testing the SV, I witnessed Supra team wakeboarder Fynn Bullock land an unbelievable 1080 (three full rotations) and team wakesurfer Beaux Wildman land every trick in his extensive bag. The wakes and waves are quickly and easily tuned to any rider’s skillset or preferences, thanks to Supra’s integrated Swell Surf tabs and SmartPlate, so beginners need not be intimidated and captains need not be frustrated.

Supra SV helm
There are two giant touchscreen displays—one mounted horizontally above the steering wheel and the second mounted vertically to the right. Courtesy Supra Boats

At the helm, you’re treated to two giant touchscreen displays—one mounted horizontally above the steering wheel and the second mounted vertically to the right. All the SV’s systems and functions are quickly accessed with a finger tap. The captain’s seat is a treat, with multiposition powered capabilities, memory functionality, and heating. What’s really cool is that it can be set up to automatically adjust the height based on the boat’s running angle. So, if you’re pulling a wakesurfer at slower speeds and the pitch is higher, the seat will automatically raise to give the captain a clearer view—no need to manually flip up a bolster. Bring the boat off plane, and the seat lowers automatically. Any driver who spends long days at the helm will appreciate the comfort and tech. I’d opt for the stern thruster.  Controlled via an integrated twist knob in the throttle, it makes the SV even easier to control at low speeds while docking.

For entertainment, the SV is outfitted with Supra’s latest audio system, DSD, which is an audio experience that has to be heard to be fully understood. DSD is unlike anything on the market—and not just because there are six speakers in the arms of the tower, but because the entire system is designed to work together. Equipped with 22 high-performance speakers, five amps and 25 channels of amplification, the DSD system is fine-tuned to create a truly immersive experience. Each section of speakers (bow, helm, cockpit, tower and subwoofer) can be individually controlled to customize volume throughout the boat. A third touchscreen at the dash behind the OB seat and a remote dial at the transom allow passengers to control the tunes anytime.

What the SV might lack in size, it makes up for with other advantages. It’s easier to trailer and to fit in a garage or storage bay, and it consumes less fuel. Plus, it’s easier to maneuver around tighter marinas or docks. For buyers who don’t need room for 16 or more people—or are on a size-restricted body of water—but want the performance capabilities of a bigger boat, the SV provides an answer.

Supra SV board racks
Clamping board racks are just one of many high-value items. Courtesy Supra Boats

Kudos to the team at Supra for knocking it out of the park with the SV, taking many of the best attributes of other Supra models and making them work well in a smaller package. The SV is a must-see for buyers in the sub-22-foot market, and definitely a “don’t overlook this” for buyers who think they might need a 22- or 23-footer.

Capable of taking on 3,500 pounds of subfloor ballast, then shaping the wakes and waves with the integrated Swell Surf System and Supra SmartPlate, the Supra SA creates pro-level riding surfaces that you can customize to accommodate beginner riders as well. Supra’s proprietary AutoWake technology automatically adjusts the ballast based on how the boat is riding. This makes for clean, consistent wakes and waves.

Heyday H20 ready for wake sports
The H20 has big advantages with its smaller size. Garrett Cortese

Given the growth of the inboard watersports boat market over the last decade, it should come as no surprise that the trend of offering bigger and bigger models has only—for lack of a better term—grown. Manufacturers such as Centurion, Malibu and MasterCraft all offer models 26 feet or longer. But does bigger always mean better? Not necessarily. Fortunately, for prospective buyers who need something smaller, there are still plenty of options to choose from. Most brands offer at least one model 21 feet or under, and several offer multiple. While the advantages of larger boats specific to wakeboarding and wakesurfing are fairly obvious, such as more room for friends, larger ballast systems for superior waves, etc., there are a lot of benefits to smaller boats.

The most obvious advantage is the purchase price. Generally, a 20- to 22-foot model is going to cost significantly less than a 25- to 26-footer. The second biggest economic advantage for smaller boats is fuel efficiency. Less fuel consumed means more wallet savings. Plus, if you’re a boater who needs to trailer your boat to and from your favorite riding spots, a smaller boat means better gas mileage for the tow vehicle (and quite possibly a cheaper vehicle that doesn’t require such a large tow rating).

Along with being easier to tow, smaller boat models are much easier to store, especially if you need to keep one in a standard-size garage. Every model listed in this roundup features a collapsible tower, making it ideal for storing in tighter places. The smaller size also presents an advantage when it comes to handling. A 20-foot boat is going to be easier to maneuver than its 26-foot sibling. MasterCraft’s XT20 is 6 feet, 5 inches shorter, 2 inches narrower and 1,800 pounds lighter than the Yacht Certified X26, so you know it’s going to be less demanding to handle in tight quarters.

With all the advancements in hull design and wave-shaping technologies, the smaller boats in the watersports segment are able to produce better wakes and waves than ever before. In years past, buyers who wanted clean surf waves with plenty of push for all the riders in their family often had to go for the bigger boats that displaced more water. In 2024, that’s not always the case. All the boats in our list can create waves that cater to all types of different riding levels and styles. You won’t be able to bring 16 or 17 of your closest friends; however, you can have a blast on the water with everybody you can bring, and you’ll likely save some money while doing it.

Here’s a look at eight of the best wakeboats under 21 feet.

Check out our list of eight great small, inboard-powered watersports boats. If you’re seeking easy stowage and lower costs, your next ride may be on this list.

MasterCraft XT20

The MasterCraft XT20 has undergone a complete overhaul, and MasterCraft spent a lot of effort making sure this 20-footer has the power of larger versions. The updated SurfStar technology allows the XT20 to produce smooth, symmetrical wakeboarding wakes as well as large waves with lots of push. Everyone onboard will be comfortable thanks to the convertible rear bench and transom lounge seats, which were made with triple-density foam and incredibly plush vinyl by MasterCraft. Customers can choose to go more simply with a new build or take this 20-footer to the next level with all the bells and whistles MasterCraft has to offer. The XT line is one of the most customizable on the market.

Heyday H20

The Heyday H20, which is brand-new for 2023, builds on the success of its larger sibling, the H22. Heyday has established a strong presence in the market by providing excellent performance at a very competitive price. The H20 is the only boat in the lineup without an automatic surf system, but it isn’t required because it still produces a good wave that can be enhanced with an additional wave shaper that can be attached on a suction cup. The rear-facing transom seats, which are unmatched by any other manufacturer’s chairs, and the power-folding swimstep are two things we adore about the H20. This makes storing the H20 in a garage or other small locations much easier.

Moomba Mondo

Buyers can now enjoy reliable performance at a more affordable price because of Moomba’s constant improvements to the models’ abilities and performance. The 20-foot Moomba Mondo is the smallest in the fleet, but it produces some very entertaining wakes and waves thanks to an amazing 3,700 pounds of ballast, the Swell Surf System plates, and AutoWake technology. The Mondo’s AutoWake system is essential since it uses onboard sensors to track the boat’s running attitude. The Swell Surf System and ballast will automatically adjust as necessary to maintain the wake or wave at the ideal location. This takes a ton of the guesswork out of setting the Mondo up, which is great for new users or veteran riders alike, because it means less time trying to figure things out and more time on the water having fun.

Axis A20

Since the brand’s beginnings, the Axis A20 has been a mainstay in the range, and in 2020 it had a significant update. The A20 is a fantastic choice for families looking to get into the watersports scene thanks to a better running surface and a more comfortable ride. It is impossible to emphasize how simple the Surf Gate and Power Wedge III systems are to use for wakeboarding and wakesurfing. Because of its adaptability, the A20 is excellent for riders who are just learning to stand up or who want to expand their repertoire of tricks.

Malibu 21 LX

The Malibu 21 LX, introduced in 2022, is a model that draws inspiration from a number of previous Malibu models and transforms them into a multisport, family-friendly vehicle. One obvious example of this is the hybrid bow, featured on the 21 LX, which has lines that are similar to those of a traditional bow but an interior portion that is shaped like a larger pickle fork bow, providing greater space for passengers. Wake Plus and Diamond are the two hull styles available to buyers. While Diamond is designed for customers who also wish to water ski more aggressively behind the 21 LX, Wake Plus is intended for those leaning more toward wakesurfing and wakeboarding performance. As for the wakes and waves, the combination of Surf Gate and Power Wedge III ensure the 21 LX can be quickly and easily tweaked for all different levels and styles of riding. Opt in for the Surf Band remote and the rider can control those systems from their wrist while riding.

Nautique GS20

For 2023, the Nautique GS20 has undergone a total makeover and is all-new. It is hailed as a true crossover performer since it can tow a skier around the slalom course in a matter of minutes after pulling a great wakesurf session with good waves. The GS20’s hull borrows design influences from its Super Air Nautique and Ski Nautique G23 relatives, enabling it to perform better in both extremes than you’d assume for a 20-foot V-drive. The Nautique Surf System plates that were tooled into the boat’s transom enable the GS20 to produce wakesurfing waves that can be adjusted for both novice and experienced riders. NSS plates are also much smaller than other surf system plates on the market, allowing for quick transfers from side to side when wakesurfing.

Supra SR

The 20’11” Supra SR provides the sporty, aggressive appearance for which Supra has grown renowned, along with all-around performance that is suitable for both novice and experienced riders. The SR, which is the largest boat on this list at just under 21 feet, is rated for 14 passengers, more than any other vessel. If you invite some friends along, the 3,300 pounds of ballast and Supra’s Swell Surf System will produce huge, entertaining waves. The standard AutoWake technology from Supra makes the on-water experience easier and more enjoyable for both the captain and the rider.

Tigé 20 RZX

Even though it is exactly 20 feet long, Tigé’s pickle-fork-shaped 20RZX can accommodate 13 people and 3,000 pounds of ballast. The 20 RZX keeps things simple and organized by placing the Clear Screen, which is positioned vertically, as the only screen in the cockpit. The 20 RZX’s systems can still be swiftly and simply managed with a few finger taps thanks to the single screen on the right of the steering wheel, which gives the captain a clear line of sight and minimizes distractions. The 20 RZX is a snap to set up and ride thanks to preset settings for surfing, wakeboarding, and water skiing, and the TAPS 3T surf plates make it simple to adjust the waves for different types of riders.

In the bow, I discovered the coolest new feature: the Switchback Seat. The wind dam for the walk-through flips into a backrest, allowing for a third seat with the center cushion in place. Comfort continues with customizable seating, including a convertible rear bench that also sets up as a table. JL Audio speakers throughout (and on the tower) are tuned specifically to the SE’s layout. Rated for 18 and with abundant storage throughout and on the tower, the SE carries a big crew and all their gear.

Watersports performance? With 4,700 pounds of subfloor ballast and Supra’s Swell Surf System plates, the SE creates sizable and customizable wakes and waves. Wakes feature smooth transitions and long faces, with a nice kick at the top. The wakesurf waves offer plenty of power for riders of all sizes, with a pocket that makes it easy to stay in the wave while working on new tricks. Adjusting the center-mounted Supra Smart Plates makes the wave longer and mellower or shorter and steeper. And Supra’s patented AutoWake technology takes the guesswork out of setting up and maintaining wakes and waves. It uses sensors to detect pitch, roll, and other changes in the boat’s attitude. Then it automatically adjusts the ballast and wake plates to optimize the ride based on the rider’s preferences.

Supra’s two large touchscreens provide redundancy and convenience. Every feature, from the ballast, AutoWake and wakesurfing setup to lighting and heated seats, can be enabled with several taps of your fingers. Soft-touch buttons built into the steering wheel allow adjusting the audio, surf side, boatspeed and more. I like the stern thruster integrated into the throttle. Twist the knob and dual thrusters move the transom. The powered captain’s chair is comfortable, supportive and heated.

There are more features to describe than I have space for here. Go see for yourself. I think you’ll agree that Supra’s SE ranks high in the ever-competitive 24-foot wakeboat market.

How We Tested

  • Engine: Roushcharged Raptor 575 V-8 by Indmar
  • Drive/Prop: V-drive/Acme 4-blade
  • Gear Ratio: 1.70:1 Fuel Load: 74 gal. Crew Weight: 375 lb.

High Points

  • Third touchscreen next to the glove box allows crew seated beside the captain to control the audio and lighting systems.
  • Knob on the throttle makes for intuitive maneuverability when operating the twin stern thrusters on the transom.
  • Transom locker offers extra storage for wakesurf boards or any other gear you need to bring along.
  • Port and starboard wakesurf tow points located on the tower make it easy to get new surfers up and going.

Low Points

  • Flip-up backrests on the transom seats can pinch fingers if pulled on incorrectly.

Toughest Competitor

For comparison, shoppers should check out the Malibu 24 MXZ. Comparable in size, comparably powered and well equipped, the MXZ is rated to hold 17 versus the SE’s 18.

Luxury and performance are the hallmarks of the Supra Boats SE model, right along with its world-class abilities as a tow boat.

The largest boat in the Supra fleet, the SE provides plenty of room between its newly designed bow and the swim step. Measuring 24.5 feet long, able to carry 18 passengers, and with 4,700 pounds of standard ballast, this boat is big by many measures. Seating is upholstered in a variety of Chill Tech vinyl colors, all of which stay cool to the touch in direct sunlight. The redesigned rear-facing flip seat provides not only more seating options, but also an elevated table. At the sun deck, flip-up seatbacks further enhance comfort and utility.

The industry’s only standard power height-adjustable heated captain’s chair has been upgraded for 2023 with a billet-aluminum finish and Supra logos, creating a truly high-end piece. The captain’s chair, along with the Swell Surf and Smart Plate, utilize Smart Actuators, the settings of which you input via the Vision Control Center, a multitouchscreen array on the dash. Save your surf, wake and seat-height settings, and enjoy a more refined experience on the water. You can even control the LED lighting that, for this year, now includes quad-beam underwater lighting, which illuminates the middle of the boat.

The updated transom remote allows riders to select a side with a swipe. This is just part of the wave- and wake-making systems aboard the Supra SE, including the patented AutoWake, which automatically manipulates the hull to create a precise wake or wave time after time. Supra’s Smart Plate delivers better wake control and can smooth the ride on rough water. Its Swell 3.0 Surf System creates tall, long-pocketed waves with plenty of push, perfect for switching from side to side. Activate the Supra Launch System, and the Swell Plate and Swell Surf System deploy to make the boat plane faster.

There’s more to learn about the 2023 Supra SE, including new gelcoat colors, the patented Dual Stern Thrusters, the Raptor by Indmar engine choices, and more. Check out one for yourself.

The performances at August Lakes today in Katy, Texas at the Pro Wake Tour powered by Supra Boats were the best many have ever seen. The stellar conditions at this man made facility and an amazing wake from the Supra Boats SA 550 created the perfect platform for the professional and junior professional wakeboarders as well as the professional wakesurfers to put on an incredible show.

Learn about the PWT digital qualifier!

In the Pro Wakeboarding Final, Sam Brown led off the line up of the 6 rider final with some of the biggest names in the sport including Rapa, Teunissen, Oka and Pifferetti. After the first set of runs in the best of two run format, Cory Teunissen was sitting solidly in the top spot, then came Sam Brown’s final run. Sam kicked off the second round by putting down a line that was so prominent almost every rider on the dock proclaimed him the winner before they even took their second run. For Sam’s last move he landed a Nuclear Ole 720, a move that he had only landed once before and it had never been done in a contest.

Pro Wake Tour Marketing Director, Devin Tatro said, “The riding was absolutely incredible at this first event and it’s so good to be back to live – in person events, there is nothing quite like it.”

In addition to the performances, the wakeboarding and wakesurfing fans came out in droves to be a part of one of the first live wakeboarding events to return. The huge crowd helped to push the athletes to deliver their phenomenal runs.

The kick off of the 2021 Pro Wake Tour Powered by Supra Boats also carried an International field with winners from Australia, Switzerland, and the United States. Between the quality of the conditions and this diverse field the Pro Wake Tour is setting the standard in 2021 for professional wakeboarding and wakesurfing events.

In Pro Wakesurfing the 3 time Pro Wake Tour Champion Sean Silveira put down what is likely the most technical, smooth, and stylish wakesurfing competitive run ever landed. The shape of the Supra SA 550 wake was absolutely spectacular which allowed these guys to stomp nearly perfect runs. Right behind Silveira were the technically strong Swanson Brothers from Arizona. These three may very likely be in every final this year.

Three-time Pro Wake Tour Champion Sean Silveira ( 91.66) won the wakesurfing podium, while brothers Taylor Swanson (left, 70.00) and Camron Swanson (right, 64.33) came in second and third, respectively.

With more options and features than ever before, the redesigned Supra SL is a premier watersports tow boat designed to provide all 17 riders on board, no matter their skill level, a fun day on the water. First off, Supra didn’t compromise in any way when it designed the wake and wave of the SL. Featuring 3,500 pounds of subfloor ballast, the riding surface can be completely programmed and customized, and is capable of everything from an easy-to-ride, beginner wake, all the way up to a pro-level wake where the sheer volume of water could power a small village.

At the helm, the captain will find a feature-rich dash setup that is both ergonomic and user-friendly. Courtesy Supra Boats

Moving into the interior of the SL, we couldn’t find a single thing to complain about. Everything was purposely designed and meticulously crafted, from the Chill Tech Vinyl (preventing even black vinyl from getting hot in the sun) and the FxONE Power Tower that folds with the push of a button, to the in-floor storage compartments and the GatorStep nonskid flooring from the bow to the swim platform. Supra’s designers even removed reasons for anyone to ever have to get up out of their seat by keeping everything within reach, including an in-sole cooler, phone holders, cup holders and USB charging ports.

At the helm, the captain will find a feature-rich dash setup that is both ergonomic and user-friendly. Two of the three touchscreen displays in Supra’s Vision Control System put the controls at your fingertips without you having to scroll and search for basic operational information. Between Supra’s patented AutoWake system and its preprogrammed rider profiles, you can be confident that the wake and wave shapes will stay consistent for the rider, even if passengers change seats during their set. We also loved the all-new heated captain’s chair featuring power controls, integrated software, and heated back and seat cushions. And a must-have feature for 2021: the dual stern thrusters controlled by twisting the knob of the throttle. No matter your prior experience, it’s hard not to feel comfortable and confident sitting at the helm.

High Points

  • Wake and wave feature a long, forgiving transition.
  • Functional and convertible rear-facing seating from bow to stern.
  • Dual stern thrusters for precise maneuverability at slow speeds.
